Mark Attendance using Fingerprint Technology
Fingerprint scanners are changing time and attendance tracking in offices. This new technology uses the unique shape of your fingerprint to identify you more accurately. When employees arrive or leave work, they simply check their fingerprints on the readers. This scan is then compared to the template stored in the system’s database. If there is a meeting, the arrival time system automatically records the arrival or departure of employees, creating an accurate and unalterable record of payroll and work hour monitoring
Here's how it work:
Enrollment: Authorized users have their fingerprints scanned and stored as digital templates in a secure database. This enrollment process typically happens during system setup or when granting access to a new individual.
Fingerprint Capture: When someone seeks access, they place their finger on the scanner's surface.
Image Processing: The scanner captures an image of the fingerprint (using capacitive, optical, or ultrasonic technology as described previously).
Template Extraction: The scanner extracts a digital representation (template) of the captured fingerprint data, focusing on the unique ridges and valleys.
Matching the Database: This extracted template is then compared against the pre-enrolled fingerprint templates stored in the access control system's database.
Recording Attendance:
Match Success: If there's a sufficient match between the scanned template and a stored template, the system automatically records the current time and date. This signifies the employee's arrival or departure time.
Match Failure: If there's no matching template or the match quality falls below a certain threshold, access is denied. An alarm might be triggered, or an alternative authentication method might be required.
Benefits:
Enhanced Security:
Fingerprint scanners eliminate the possibility of "buddy punching" (clocking in/out for someone else). This ensures accurate attendance records and reduces payroll discrepancies.
Improved Accuracy: Fingerprint scanners eliminate human error associated with manual sign-in sheets or forgotten badges.
Limitations:
Initial Investment:Implementing a fingerprint scanner system may require an initial investment for purchasing and installing the scanners.
Sensor Accuracy: Scanner performance can be affected by factors like dirty or wet fingers, potentially requiring re-scans.
